ROOFTOP GARDEN IN DOUBLE BAY, EASTERN SUBURBS SYDNEY
THE BRIEF – To create a modern rooftop oasis garden using tropical plants and create an inviting outdoor space to entertain in Double Bay. The client wanted a landscape designer to completely update their courtyard rooftop area using only low maintenance artificial plants. The focus was on creating privacy from the neighbouring apartment buildings.
We updated the rooftop garden adding large darker troughs and some smaller white circular pots. We used an tropical blend of artificial plants of different heights for privacy and dramatic effect. The rooftop garden was surrounded by apartments and was also exposed to the wind. This created a unique trade-off for our team between privacy and wind tolerance.Â

THE CLIENTSÂ
This young couple had recently decided to rent out their Double Bay fully furnished apartment. The entertaining space was limited, so we were called in to utilise their rooftop garden space for secluded entertaining.
We worked closely with our client and the body corporate who had very tight requirements on setbacks, height limits and proximity to air conditioning units. We solved these by designing a completely movable garden with all pots incorporating wheels on the bases.Â
DOUBLE BAY ROOFTOP GARDEN DESIGN
We created two distinct zones out of the large open space- one for dining and a cosy seating area for drinks and relaxation.Â
The elevated planter troughs instantly created a more private segregated area that didn’t exist before. This new private dining area coupled with our tropical plant selection of palms, Cycads and Sansevieria (Mother in laws tongue) created instant privacy for the new tenants to instantly enjoy.
