FORMAL GARDEN DESIGN IN KILLARA, NORTH SHORE SYDNEY
THE BRIEF – Update both front and back gardens featuring existing privacy hedges. The client wanted a North Shore landscape designer to update their existing garden and introduce elements of both contemporary and classic Formal design.
We updated the front garden adding elements of contemporary formal design. The back of the house featured an existing pool, so we introduced more contemporary planting elements for this family friendly space.

THE CLIENTSÂ
A middle aged family who had recently moved to this established large family home in Killara in Sydney’s North Shore.
The client was shortly hosting an outdoor function to celebrate their new home and wanted the new garden to look at its best and most importantly, needed us to move quickly.Â
FRONT GARDEN – FORMAL DESIGN
We reduced areas of repetitive planting that weren’t breaking up the existing formal garden space. We introduced a boundary around the lawn of soft white pebbles and corten steel edging to slightly reduce the front lawn size, and create a visual frame for our new design.
We added custom made outdoor cushions on the existing timber day beds. This instantly created a softer inviting warmth to the front garden.
We framed the entrance with new classic terracotta pots featuring circular buxus planting.
CLASSIC BACK GARDEN POOL
The back garden featured an existing pool, so we created a planting design that would be sympathetic to the existing house architecture yet be casual enough for modern family living.
